Community radio

WORT is community radio: a wide range of music, news, education and commentary for the Madison community. It is affiliated with the National Federation of Community Broadcasters and Pacifica Radio and is a member of the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association.

A name with a story

WORT signed on on December 1, 1975. Its call letters were the third choice: the founders' first idea, WOMB, was turned down at an early station meeting, and the second, WART, was not available.

Listener-sponsored

WORT is supported by its listeners rather than by commercials, which lets it make room for music and voices that commercial radio rarely plays.

Press play and WORT starts in seconds — on the Isthmus, at work or far from Wisconsin. The stream on this page carries the same programming you hear on 89.9 FM.
