About Mega 97.9
Mega 97.9 is New York's best-known Spanish-language music station. It broadcasts as WSKQ-FM on 97.9 FM, and its slogan, "La Mega se pega de New York", sums up its place in the city's Latin community. On this page you can listen to Mega 97.9 live online, free and without an app.
Tropical music
La Mega plays tropical music — the sound of the Caribbean that New York's Dominican and Puerto Rican communities grew up with. Its playlist mixes salsa, bachata, merengue and reggaeton, from the classics to the newest hits, with energetic Spanish-speaking hosts and plenty of call-ins and contests.
A station for New York's Latin audience
WSKQ-FM is owned by Spanish Broadcasting System, the company behind several of the country's biggest Spanish-language stations, and it shares ownership in New York with WPAT-FM (Amor 93.1). Its hosts are part of daily life for many Latino listeners in the five boroughs, New Jersey and beyond, and the station is among the most searched-for Spanish-language radio stations in the United States.
The history of 97.9 FM
The frequency has been on the air since July 1951, when it began as WEVD-FM. In those years it was known as the station that spoke many languages, carrying programs for Yiddish, Italian, Greek and other immigrant communities. The WSKQ call letters arrived in 1989, and since then 97.9 has become a home for Spanish-language music in the city.
