History
The 97.1 FM frequency is one of the oldest FM signals in America: it began in January 1940 as the experimental W2XWG and later became WEAF-FM and WNBC-FM. It was WYNY before becoming WQHT, whose letters spell "Hot".
Studios and HD channels
The studios are in the Hudson Square neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, and the transmitter is on the Empire State Building. In HD Radio, HD2 carries La Buena 97.1 with regional Mexican music and HD3 carries talk.
Sister stations
Hot 97 shares ownership with 107.5 WBLS, New York's R&B station.
