A historic frequency

98.7 FM is one of New York's oldest FM signals. It signed on on April 1, 1941, as W71NY and later became WOR-FM, WBAM and again WOR-FM until 1972. It was WXLO from 1972 to 1981 and WRKS-FM from 1981 to 2012. The WEPN call letters come from its previous ESPN Radio affiliation.

Sister station

Emmis also owns WLIB in New York, so the two stations share the same parent company in the city.
