About ESPN 1000
ESPN 1000 is Chicago's ESPN sports station. It broadcasts as WMVP on 1000 AM, serves the Chicago metropolitan area and is part of the ESPN Radio network. The station is owned by Good Karma Broadcasting, and here you can listen to ESPN 1000 live, free and without an app.
Bears, White Sox and more
WMVP carries some of Chicago's biggest teams. Its affiliations include the Chicago Bears, the Chicago White Sox, the Chicago Wolves hockey team and Northwestern Wildcats sports, so the station is busy with live play-by-play throughout the year.
ESPN and Chicago talk
Between games, ESPN 1000 mixes national ESPN Radio programming with local shows about the Bears, Bulls, Cubs, White Sox and Blackhawks, built for Chicago fans and the calls they make to the station.
A powerful signal
WMVP is a 50,000-watt station — the maximum power allowed for a commercial AM station — on a clear-channel frequency it shares with stations in Seattle and Mexico City. A directional antenna protects those stations, and at night WMVP's signal reaches listeners across the Midwest and into Central Canada.
History of 1000 AM
The frequency signed on in June 1926. For more than sixty years it was WCFL, the radio voice of the Chicago Federation of Labor, and later WLUP before taking the WMVP call letters, which stand for "Most Valuable Player".
