Adult album alternative
XRT plays a broad mix of rock: classic artists, alternative and indie, blues and singer-songwriters, with new music next to deep cuts from the 1960s onward. It is one of the best-known AAA stations in the country, loved by Chicago listeners for hosts who choose music with real knowledge and taste.
A downtown station
The transmitter sits on top of the John Hancock Center, and the studios are at Two Prudential Plaza near Millennium Park, putting XRT in the heart of Chicago. The station broadcasts in HD Radio.
History
The 93.1 FM frequency signed on in March 1960 as WSBC-FM and became WXRT in 1963. The call letters have no particular meaning, but in Chicago "XRT" has become a name with its own identity: a station known for championing new music and live performances.
Sister stations
In Chicago, XRT shares ownership with WBBM Newsradio, 670 The Score, US 99 and other Audacy stations.
