About Power 105.1
Power 105.1 is New York's hip-hop and R&B station. It broadcasts as WWPR-FM on 105.1 FM and serves the New York metropolitan area under the slogan "New York's Hip Hop and R&B". The station is owned by iHeartMedia, and on this page you can listen to Power 105.1 live online, free.
Hip-hop and R&B
Power plays an urban contemporary format: the newest hip-hop and R&B, the songs the city is talking about and the classics that built the genre. National programming comes through Premiere Networks and iHeartRadio.
A long road to Power
The frequency signed on on December 14, 1953, as WWRL-FM. As WRFM it was bought in 1967 by Bonneville International, which in 1968 launched "Stereo 105", a beautiful music format created by program director Marlin Taylor — mostly instrumentals by artists such as Mantovani, Henry Mancini and Percy Faith, with about one vocal every fifteen minutes. Later calls included WNSR, WMXV, WDBZ, WBIX and WTJM before WWPR, a scrambling of "Power".
HD channels
HD2 carries DaNu Radio, with Russian-language programming, and HD3 simulcasts WWRL.
Sister stations
Power 105.1 shares iHeartMedia ownership with WAXQ, WHTZ, WKTU, WLTW, WOR and WWRL in New York.
