Urban contemporary

KPRS airs an urban contemporary format: hip-hop, R&B and, on Sunday mornings, urban gospel. HD2 plays urban oldies.

A record of ownership

According to the FCC, KPRS has been continuously owned by an African American family longer than any other radio station in the country.

Kansas City's People's Radio Station

The station signed on in 1963 as KPRS-FM and dropped the "-FM" in 1974. The call letters stand for "Kansas City's Peoples Radio Station". Its sister station is KPRT.

Hip-hop, anywhere

Press play and Hot 103 Jamz starts in seconds — on I-70, at the gym or anywhere you are. The stream on this page carries the same music you hear on 103.3 FM.

A Kansas City institution

For more than six decades KPRS has been part of Kansas City's Black community, from its music to its Sunday gospel, and it remains one of the city's best-known stations.
