More on HD
HD2 plays folk music, HD3 carries classical music from WCLV, and HD4 carries more public radio.
An early educational FM station
WKSU grew out of a radio training workshop at Kent State that supplied programs to commercial stations. Apart from a pause during World War II, that work led to WKSU's establishment on October 2, 1950, as one of the first educational FM stations in the United States. It later became a public radio and classical music outlet, with folk music on weekends.
Ideastream
Since October 1, 2021, a public service operating agreement with Ideastream has combined WKSU's and WCPN's programming and staff, with WKSU as the surviving station. Its sisters include WCLV, WCPN, WCSB and WVIZ.
