90.9 WBUR is Boston's NPR station. It broadcasts as WBUR-FM on 90.9 FM and serves Greater Boston with news and talk. The station is owned by the Trustees of Boston University, and on this page you can listen to WBUR live online, free.

News and talk

WBUR airs public news and talk: NPR's national programs together with news and conversation from Boston, as a member of NPR and the Public Radio Exchange.

Boston University Radio

The call letters stand for "Boston University Radio". WBUR signed on on March 1, 1950, and used the plain WBUR call sign until 1997, when it became WBUR-FM.

Cape Cod and the Islands

WBUR's programming is also carried on two stations serving Cape Cod and the Islands: WBUH on 89.1 FM in Brewster and WBUA on 92.7 FM in Tisbury, on Martha's Vineyard, which uses the frequency formerly occupied by WMVY.

Rhode Island

In 1998 WBUR helped launch WRNI in Providence, the first NPR station inside Rhode Island's borders; it has since been sold to a local group.
