About 105.9 FM WMAL
105.9 FM WMAL is a Washington talk station. It broadcasts as WMAL-FM on 105.9 FM, is licensed to Woodbridge, Virginia, and serves the Washington metropolitan area under the slogan "Where Washington Comes To Talk". The station is owned by Cumulus Media, and on this page you can listen to WMAL live online, free. The online stream is offered to listeners inside the United States; outside the country it may not play because of rights restrictions.
Talk and news
WMAL airs a conservative talk format. Most weekday hours open with local news, and Fox News Radio is carried at the top of most hours at night and on weekends. The station also works with CBS News Radio, Westwood One and WJLA-TV.
Weekends
Weekends bring shows about money, health, real estate and gardening — many of them paid, brokered programs — along with repeats of weekday shows.
The WMAL name
The call letters honor Martin A. Leese, founder of the original WMAL on 630 AM, which is now WSBN, today's sister station. WMAL-FM's HD2 channel simulcasts WSBN.
History
The 105.9 frequency signed on on December 25, 1958, and went through many call signs — among them WBVA, WXRA, WPKX-FM, WCXR-FM, WJZW and WVRX — before taking the WMAL name.
