The station is owned by Urban One, and on this page you can listen to The Beat live online, free. Hip-hop and R&B
The Beat airs an urban contemporary format: hip-hop and R&B, the newest songs and the ones North Texas keeps playing.
A 100,000-watt signal
KBFB broadcasts with an effective radiated power of 100,000 watts from a transmitter off Plateau Street in Cedar Hill, among the towers of other Dallas–Fort Worth FM and TV stations. It also uses HD Radio; HD3 carries Tejano music.
History
The station signed on on January 6, 1961, as WFAA-FM. It was KZEW from 1973 to 1990, then KKWM, KLRX and KRRW before becoming KBFB. The "B" comes from "B-97.9", a former adult contemporary station on the frequency.
Sister stations
The Beat's sister stations are KRNB (105.7 RNB) and KKDA-FM (K104).
