Newsradio 840 WHAS is Louisville's news and talk station. It broadcasts on 840 AM, serves the Louisville metropolitan area and uses the slogan "Kentuckiana's News, Weather & Traffic". The station is owned by iHeartMedia, and on this page you can listen to WHAS live online, free.

News, talk and Wildcats

WHAS airs news and talk with ABC News Radio, CBS News Radio, Compass Media Networks, Premiere Networks and Westwood One, along with a partnership with WLKY. It is part of the UK Sports Network.

A 50,000-watt clear channel

WHAS is a Class A clear-channel station, powered at 50,000 watts non-directional — the maximum for commercial AM stations. By day it reaches most of central Kentucky, almost half of Indiana including Indianapolis, and much of southwestern Ohio including Cincinnati and Dayton. At night, with a good radio, it can be heard across most of the Eastern and Central United States and much of Canada.

History

WHAS signed on on July 18, 1922. Its call letters were randomly assigned by the government; the backronym "We Have A Signal" came later.

Sister stations

In Louisville, iHeartMedia also owns WAMZ, WKJK, WKRD, WSDF, WNRW, WQMF and WTFX-FM.

How to listen

You can hear WHAS on the radio on 840 AM across Kentuckiana, but you do not need a radio at all: this page plays the live stream in any browser, on a phone, tablet or computer. Press the play button at the top, wait a second or two for the stream to connect, and keep browsing while it plays — the player stays on as you move between pages. It is ideal for the morning news or a Wildcats game, and it costs nothing: no account, no subscription and no app to install.

Below the player you will find WHAS's frequency and home city, the genres it plays, answers to common questions and a list of similar stations, so when you want a change you can jump to another station in the same format or the same area with one click.
