About WNWI 1080 AM
WNWI 1080 AM is a multilingual station for the Chicago area. It broadcasts on 1080 AM, is licensed to Oak Lawn, Illinois, and serves Chicago and its suburbs. The station is owned by the Birach Broadcasting Corporation, and on this page you can listen to WNWI live online, free.
Ethnic radio
WNWI is a time-brokered station with an ethnic radio format: hosts and community groups buy airtime for programs in several languages, including Polish, so the schedule reflects the many communities that call the Chicago area home. News comes from AP Radio.
A shared clear channel
1080 AM is a clear-channel frequency, on which WTIC in Hartford, Connecticut, and KRLD in Dallas, Texas, are the dominant Class A stations; WNWI shares the frequency for the Chicago area.
History
WNWI signed on on December 31, 1965. Its call letters stand for Northwest Indiana, the region of its original city of license, Valparaiso. Its sister station is WMFN.
A voice for many communities
For listeners who want programs in their own language, WNWI is a local voice on the Chicago dial.
