About Northwest News Radio

Northwest News Radio is Seattle's all-news station. It broadcasts as KNWN on 1000 AM, is licensed to Seattle and serves the Seattle metropolitan area. On this page you can listen to Northwest News Radio live online, free.

All news

KNWN airs all-news radio for the Northwest, with national news from ABC News Radio, business news from Bloomberg Radio and programs from Westwood One.

A 50,000-watt clear channel

KNWN is a clear-channel Class A station, broadcasting with 50,000 watts, the maximum for American AM stations. It is non-directional by day and uses a directional antenna at night to protect WMVP in Chicago and XEOY in Mexico City. In good conditions it can be heard by day from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Portland, Oregon, and at night across much of Western North America. The transmitter is on Vashon Island.

Across from the Space Needle

The studios are in KOMO Plaza, formerly Fisher Plaza, in Lower Queen Anne, directly across the street from the Space Needle.

From KOMO to KNWN

The station signed on in July 1926 and was KOMO from 1926 to 2022 before becoming KNWN, for "Northwest News".

Sister stations

Its sister stations are KPLZ-FM, KVI and KNWN-FM.
